Choosing the right vape starter kit isn’t always a walk in the park, especially with so many brands and devices to choose from. But if you’re in the market for a prefilled pod kit, then you’ll likely come across both Juul and Vuse at some point.

Juul were once the biggest name in the vaping scene, dominating the pod kit market with their never-seen-before ultra sleek frame and user-friendly design. After a few quiet years, Juul are back with their brand new pod kit; the Juul2. Their latest device builds on the success of its predecessor, boasting a similar compact shape and prefilled pod compatibility and has recently been crowned winner of the Product Of The Year Award 2023 in the vaping and tobacco category, as voted for by thousands of happy consumers. But does this new pod kit have what it takes to stand up against the popular vape brand, Vuse.

Formerly known as Vype, Vuse are a fan-favourite vape brand best known for their range of compact and affordable pod kits, and their best-selling device, the ePod is no different. This pod kit has been around for a couple of years now, but still boasts a great reputation among vape fans, partly thanks to its tiny footprint and great choice of pod flavours available. But is the new release of the Juul2 on track to steal the spotlight? Well, that’s what I’m here to find out.

After trying out both pod kit brands and putting them to the test, I’m ready to share my findings. In this comparison review, I’ll run through all the key features, performance and flavour options offered by both devices to help you decide which pod kit is right for you and your lifestyle. Let’s jump right in!

Juul 2 Features

Juul 2

  • 350mAh battery
  • 1.2ml pod capacity
  • Magnetic charging
  • Magnetic pod connection

Features Comparison

Both the Juul2 and the Vuse ePod have the same intrinsic qualities I'd expect from a premium pod kit, with a keen focus on simplicity, portability, and ease of use. Both devices offer a beginner-friendly pod vape kit as a more sustainable and long lasting alternative to disposable vapes.

Despite their similarities, these two devices differ from one another in a few key ways, with the pod capacity possibly being the most noteworthy. Although both devices house the same 350mAh battery to keep users satisfied for multiple hours and are compatible with handy prefilled pods, Vuse offers users slightly more bang for their buck. Each Vuse pod is packed with 1.9ml of nic salt e-liquid, which is pretty impressive when compared to the 1.2ml found inside each Juul pod. This means that I had to swap my Juul2 pods far more regularly than my Vuse pods.

The Vuse ePod features a seamless magnetic connection that sits flush and holds the pods securely in place without risking messy leaks and spills. Meanwhile, the Juul pods simply click on to the body of the device. However, even without a magnet to keep them in place, I found that the Juul pods snap in pretty securely and I didn’t experience any issues with leaking.

Another key difference worth noting is the charging methods. Unlike most pod kits, these devices have opted to design their own chargers that only work exclusively with their device. Both pod kits come with a magnetic charging system; while the Vuse ePod features a charging cable with a magnetic connection, the Juul2 comes with a very small magnetic USB charger. Although the Juul2 charger looks great, I didn’t find it to be very practical and I much preferred the freedom of the Vuse ePod cable.

When it comes to choosing the ideal e-cigarette, the basic functions of a pod vape kit are key, but it's also important to choose a device that looks and feels great in your hand.

Juul 2 Design

Juul 2

  • 87.2 x 15.1 x 7.15 mm
  • Weight: 14g
  • Pen-style device
  • Flat mouthpiece

Design Comparison

Although both brands have opted for a traditional pen-style shape that ex-smokers know and love, there are a handful of aesthetic differences between these two pod kits. Firstly, the Juul2 is the smaller device, sporting a slightly shorter and flatter shape than its competitor. While the difference is only very slight, it’s clear to see that the Vuse ePod is the larger device. Nevertheless, both pod kits are extremely compact and small enough to hide away in your pocket or palm with ease.

The Juul vape is also the more lightweight option of the two, weighing in at just 14g, this makes it one of the lightest pod vape kits on the market. The Vuse ePod is a little heavier at 23.6g, but both are definitely featherlight enough to carry around while on the go. Despite their small footprints, both devices feel fairly strong and sturdy and can easily tolerate everyday knocks and bumps.

Each device features a smooth silver matte exterior that looks and feels great in my hand. However, they differ slightly when it comes to the mouthpiece. The Vuse ePod features a tapered drip tip whereas the Juul2 pod kit sports a totally flat, squared-off mouthpiece that sits seamlessly in line with the rest of the device for an integrated look. Overall, I found the Vuse mouthpiece to sit much more comfortably in my mouth and I definitely prefer the tapered style over a flat mouthpiece.

Now that you’ve got a better idea of how these devices compare in terms of design, let’s take a look at what flavours are available.

Flavour Comparison

Juul are known for targeting a more mature audience, so it came as no surprise to learn that their new collection reflected this. Their 6 Juul pod flavours are available in an array of traditional blends, focusing solely on tobacco, menthol and mint profiles, catering to those who prefer to vape with classic blends. They’ve thrown in a couple of fruity fusions too, such as Summer Menthol which fuses fresh menthol notes with a hint of tropical fruit. Nevertheless, it’s pretty evident that Juul are keen to stay away from fun and exciting flavour profiles, instead focusing their efforts on traditional blends.

Meanwhile, Vuse has headed in the complete opposite direction by serving up 14 vibrant profiles that are both sweet and exciting. ePod 2 vape pods cover 4 key categories including fruit, ice fruit, beverages and classic to keep every type of vape fan satisfied. Although Vuse offers basic Tobacco-inspired profiles, unlike Juul, they also offer fruit flavours such as Garden Strawberry and beverage flavours like Tequila Sunrise are sure to keep the more adventurous vape fan happy. Juul Vs Vuse Pod Kit Ranges

Juul Vs Vuse Pod Kit Ranges

As we mentioned earlier, the Juul2 isn’t the only pod kit this brand has released. Back in 2015, the first ever Juul device was launched, changing the vaping world as we know it. The original Juul pod kit was among the first of its kind, introducing users to a compact and foolproof method of vaping. But despite the popularity of the original Juul pod kit, the Juul2 comes packed with a handful of new and innovative features to provide a wholly unique vaping experience.

The enhanced battery power is one of the most impressive improvements. Since the Juul2 battery is 20% bigger than the previous model, users can vape continuously for a longer period of time without having to pause and recharge. Plus, the new Juul2 pods are brimming with 70% more eliquid per pod, allowing users to vape for longer before needing to replace their current pod.

Much like Juul, Vuse are pretty prolific in the world of vaping, boasting multiple pod kit ranges under their brand. Their ePen 3, which is still hugely popular today, was the product that first brought this brand global success. The impressive 650mAh internal battery source on the Vuse ePen 3 gives it a lot more power, making it a reliable option for all-day vaping.

Even so, size doesn't always imply superiority. This larger battery capacity also demands a larger frame, making the ePen 3 the larger of the two. The ePod is the most compact Vuse device, yet both are small enough to fit comfortably in your hand or pocket.

Juul Vs Vuse Market Comparison

Juul Vs Vuse Market Comparison

To understand just how well both these brands are performing in the current vape kit market, we’ll need to take a look at how they stand up against other competitors in the industry. Besides Juul and Vuse, one of the most popular prefilled pod kits on the market right now is the Elf Bar Mate 500.

Unquestionably one of the hottest brands in the industry, Elf Bar were motivated by the popularity of their disposable vapes to launch a line of pod kits, bringing us the Elf Bar Mate 500. When taking a look at its key features, it’s clear to see why this pod vape has become so popular. Not only does it boast a hefty 500mAh battery, but their compatible P1 pods are packed with 2ml of nic salt e-liquid, outperforming both the Juul2 and Vuse ePod.

When it comes down to P1 pod flavours, Elf Bar continue to do what they do best; providing users with a great range of fun and exciting flavours. Although the Elf Bar Mate offers more flavour options than Juul and Vuse, it seems they’ve decided to stick to what they know by focusing purely on bright and exciting flavour profiles. So if you’re a fan of traditional or classic flavour blends, then you’ll probably find the Juul2 or Vuse Epod to be more suitable.

Juul2 Vs Vuse ePod 2 Verdict

Juul2 Vs Vuse ePod Verdict

On the whole, after trying out the Juul2 and Vuse ePod 2 for myself over the past few weeks, it’s safe to say that both brands offer a great experience for beginner vapers. The use of prefilled pods keeps things simple, allowing users to effortlessly swap from flavour to flavour without worrying about pesky coil changes and e-liquid refills.

For anyone looking to switch to vaping or for an authentic mouth-to-lung experience that mimics the pleasant throat hits that come with smoking a traditional cigarette, both the Juul2 and Vuse ePod fit the bill. The Juul2 is the clear winner if you're looking for the smallest, lightest device available. It's one of the tiniest pod kits I've ever seen, making it the ideal choice for anyone looking for a featherweight, pocket-sized companion.

However, if you prioritise pod capacity over all else, then the ePod 2 is probably your best bet. Its 1.9ml pod capacity means it’ll last far longer than a Juul pod, so you’ll save yourself some money in the long run.

Perhaps the most important difference to take into account when choosing between these two devices is the flavour variety. For those seeking a traditional tobacco or refreshing mint vaping experience, you can’t go wrong with the Juul2, as these blends are the brand’s specialty. But if you consider yourself a little more adventurous and prefer to try out fruit and sweet profiles, you’ll certainly prefer the variety provided by the Vuse ePod range of vape pods.
